Sugar Beet Pilot Group

Sponsored by EFFP (English Food & Farming Partnership). Consultant Jamie Gwatkin.

Since the introduction of the new sugar beet regime, the members of Delta Farming Ltd along with other farmers have been working on how to produce beet for £20/t. The result of these discussions is the sugar beet pilot group.

The advantages are
  • more profitable beet production
  • reduction in sugar beet surplus to requirements
  • better yields
  • better cashflow
  • sugar beet on heavy land harvested early and beet on light land harvested late
  • less acres committeed to sugar beet production.
  • more steamlined harvesting and haulage
  • more organised drilling of cereals, spraying, top dressing & combining
  • farmers still grow their own crops and maintain control

All leading to cost savings

The Sugar beet pilot group will start deliveries in September 2006.
